According to international media reports, the first trailer has been released for the film adaptation of the bestselling novel *The Love Hypothesis*. The story centers on a campus romance between a man and a woman who initially can’t stand each other but pretend to be a couple—only to fall genuinely in love.

This R-rated romantic comedy stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, is directed by Claire Scanlon, and is produced by Amazon/MGM Studios; it is set to premiere on Prime Video on September 23.
The plot follows Olive, a PhD candidate, and Adam, a brilliant young professor, who begin a fake relationship after an impulsive kiss—a move Olive makes to prove to her best friend that she is capable of maintaining a long-term relationship. The catch, however, is that Olive and Adam absolutely loathe one another, setting the stage for a classic rom-com arc where mutual animosity transforms into passionate love.
Ali Hazelwood, the author of the original novel, originally published a *Star Wars* fanfiction titled *Head Over Feet*—featuring the characters Rey and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo—on AO3 several years ago. This work was later adapted and published as *The Love Hypothesis*, becoming a bestseller.
The film adaptation sparked significant buzz when it was announced last year, not only because it originated as fanfiction, but also because the chosen male lead, Bateman, is the real-life husband of Daisy Ridley (who played Rey). Furthermore, the character Bateman plays is named Adam—sharing a first name with Adam Driver, the actor who portrayed Kylo Ren. The story also features an unlikable character—reminiscent of General Hux from *Star Wars* and *Head Over Feet*—named Tom, sharing the same name as Bateman.
